Quoting Aldo Van Eyck’s Team 10 Primer: “The transition must be articulated by means of defined in-between places which induce simultaneous awareness of what is significant on either side. An in-between place in this sense provides the common ground where conflicting polarities can again become twin-phenomena.” This design for an urban dwelling focuses on utilizing the section as a vehicle to create spatial relationships that foster connection both horizontally and vertically, while the sectional transparency allows for an in-between threshold, in which the public and the private of the house coexist in close juxtaposition, the resulting overlapping zones blur the boundaries between them.
