The section, which reveal the interior and exterior profiles of an architecture, is the generator as it creates a better understanding of the connection between spaces, as well as the relationship between the architecture and its natural context. It provides a visualization that will not be seen, and reveals multiple aspects of the architectural experience such as elevation which is not observable in the plan.
In Capela do Monte by Álvaro Siza, the use of light and spatial sequence contributes to the presence of architecture. Sequence of space creates an experience of a cycle accompanied by the guidance of light above and below. The use of light reinforces the experience in a small space, and the manipulated sense of compression vs. expansion takes people on a journey while travelling through the architecture. Beyond its symbolic volumes and humble monumentality, it is a performative architecture in that it interacts with the people.
